Chapter One

Summer 1967, Detroit

It wasn't until a while later that things began to get weird. We were sitting in the living room of a funky apartment, the kind built in the 20's or 30's, with high ceilings and wood trimmed doorways and windows, all sporting multiple layers of paint, peeling in spots.  The floor was tiled in a black and white checkered pattern, covered with throw rugs.  We had already been smoking pot all afternoon, and had decided on a whim to drop acid.  All five of us.  Three girls seated on an old couch, I in a stuffed chair, and another guy, a friend of mine, sitting at the kitchen table.

It was the throw rugs that started it.  I began to realize that their colours were glowing with a warmth that radiated into the room with a palpable pressure.  I looked up to ask if anyone else was feeling the heat.  That's when I saw that the girls heads had morphed into different exotic birds, replete with multi-coloured feathers, yellow beaks, and shiny black eyes.  One looked like she was smiling an invitation to I know not what.

I looked down and noticed that the skin on my hands was rippling and roiling, and I could hear the sound of rushing water circling the room, like music played on a good stereo system.  The sound turned into girls laughing and I saw them pointing at me.  I started laughing to, which made them laugh harder, until we were howling so hard we couldn't catch our breath. That's when we heard the metallic clanking sound coming from the street.

I have 666 comments on my page!  I choose to see that as a plus!
To all:  we need a DA radio station!  Something we could tune into while enjoying the art on DA.  A program of short vignettes where maybe
we could read a short story or poem while a slide show of art passes by on the screen.  We could do interviews of featured artists and discussions of favorite art media.  Can video be posted on DA?
The only girl who ever truly loved him, without a trace of guile,
with a pure first love sprung full blown from the depths of youthful innocence...
